How many invited guests really come to an Indian wedding?

It depends on the family, the city and the season, so there is no single number. The reliable way is to count separately: guests who confirmed, guests who said maybe, and guests who never replied, then apply a planning share to each group and add a small buffer for the caterer.

Why one percentage does not work

A local wedding with mostly family behaves very differently from a destination wedding or a big reception with business contacts. Out-of-town guests, weekday dates, exam season and weather all change turnout. Any "70% of invitees come" rule is a guess unless it comes from your own past events.

A simple, honest estimate

Split your list into three groups and multiply each by a planning share:

Add the three numbers for the likely headcount, show a low and a high figure, and order plates at the likely number plus a 5 to 10% buffer. These are starting assumptions to replace with your own numbers.

Questions

Is confirmed attendance the same as actual attendance?

No. Confirmed is a promise, attendance is what happens on the day. Keep confirmed, tentative and checked-in numbers separate.

What buffer should I give the caterer?

Many planners add 5 to 10% over the likely headcount. Agree with your caterer how late the final count can change.

Can the estimate learn from my events?

Yes. When you check guests in with QR passes, ShaadiCount compares who said yes with who came and uses that share for your next event.
